5 Things To Do in Maine With Kids in Summer

Advertisements

As a Maine resident, I frequently get asked for advice on things to do in my home state. Here are five of our favorite summer activities:

Baby Goat Snuggling Sessions are held on select Tuesday evenings from 6pm -7pm at Smiling Hill Farm, Westbrook while the goats are small and the weather cooperates.

These FREE events are open to the public, and there is no age restriction for snugglers.

You will be instructed on proper snuggling techniques to help socialize and imprint these young kids. This is a great photo opportunity and a chance for both children and adults to hold baby goats!

Swing by the Ice Cream Barn to enjoy home-made ice cream after your snuggling session.

See dates on the event’s Facebook page.

Fort Williams Park

This park is what most out-of-state visitors picture when they think of Maine.

Enjoy breathtaking views, create rock sculptures, explore Children’s Garden.

Garden features include paths leading to a variety of opportunities for creative play; a meadow-inspired garden alive with native wildflowers and pollinating insects; a small pond promising frogs and dragonflies; water flowing through a series of cascades into the skating pond below; a “gopher tunnel”; a tree lookout fort; a sliding stone; and picnic areas for rest and regrouping

Old Orchard Beach

You can definitely spend a whole day at Old Orchard Beach:

Start with relaxing at the beach, have a lunch “with a view”, try your luck in the arcade games and ride rollercoasters at Maine’s only beach amusement park – Palace Playland, indulge in ice cream or other sweets afterwards.

Our must-dos at OOB are Palace Playland’s Ferris Wheel that offers a great view of the town’s landmark and Pier french fries.

Summer Sunsets On The Point

Held (almost) every Thursday 4 pm – sunset, late May through the end of September, Summer Sunsets on The Point is a free event at Thompson’s Point in Portland. Expect food trucks, lawn games, kids activities, stunning sunset water views and cold drinks!

Our favorite trucks? Hands down, The Marshmallow Cart and Maine Organic Cotton Candy Company.

Please note that the event will be cancelled if it rains.

See event dates and trucks lineup on the event’s Facebook page.
