Spring Break 2021 at Disney World: How Busy Is It?

Advertisements
Last weekend we dropped by Disney World for a very short one-day visit.
Saturday was the first official day of the spring break, and the park passes for that day (and the next two weeks) were “sold out”.
We were quite nervous that we would have to deal with hoards of people and long wait times.
Spoiler alert: it wasn’t bad at all!
Here is our experience:

We started our day at Disney Springs with the main goal of checking out the new donut shop – Everglazed Donuts.

We got to Disney Springs shortly before the official opening time, and we did not have to wait to get into any stores. When we were leaving, however, there was already a line to get into the World of Disney store.

Magic Kingdom

We got there at about noon. Surprisingly, the Main Street was quite empty.

The usual bottlenecks, Adventureland and Fantasyland by Small World/Peter Pan, were crowded but manageable.

The longest wait time we saw was 70 minutes for Pirates of the Caribbean.

We rode two rides:
Haunted Mansion. Posted wait time – 25 minutes, actual wait time – 9 minutes.
Buzz Lightyear. Posted wait time – 25 minutes. It went up to 40 minutes while we were in line. The actual wait time turned out to be 40 minutes.

Park Hopping

Then we decided to park hop to Epcot.

This was our first time part hopping since it returned at the beginning of the year. Per the Disney website, there should be buses running from park to park after 2 PM. However, there was no bus stop number listed for any other parks, so we were not sure if park hopping was allowed since all of the parks were sold out. We took our chances and rode a bus to Boardwalk and then walked from there to Epcot.

We were able to get into the park without any issues.

Epcot

The World Showcase was busy.
It was hard, but not completely impossible, to find a place to land to enjoy the food offerings from the Flower and Garden Festival.
By the end of the night, the park was pretty much out of hand sanitizer and… forks.
We rode two rides at Epcot as well:
Living with the Land. Posted wait time – 10 minutes, actual – no wait.
Soarin’. Posted wait time – 35 minutes, the actual wait time was accurate.

How Bad Is it?

Overall, while the parks were busy, it wasn’t bad at all:

  • there were no outrageously long wait times
  • in some cases, the actual wait time was less than posted
  • some areas of the parks were crowded, but easily avoidable

Airport

Word of advice: unless you have TSA pre-check or CLEAR membership, give yourself extra time to get through security at the Orlando airport. The day we were leaving, the security line was stretched out almost the whole length of the terminal.
