Hilton Tokyo Bay Review

When it came to choosing a hotel for Tokyo part of our trip, I knew I wanted stay at one of the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels that has great reviews and very close to the Bayside monorail station. In the end, I was deciding between Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel and Hilton Tokyo Bay. I chose Hilton Tokyo Bay mainly because I have discovered that if I sign up for Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card I will automatically get Gold status which means free breakfast for two at Hilton hotels. The annual fee was less than paying for breakfast out of pocket so it was an easy decision. Plus, the card comes with the Priority Pass membership valued at $99 that gives you 10 visits to the airport lounges.

If you want to learn more about how we use our American Express card to stay at luxury resorts and visit the airport lounges for free, get room upgrades, save on dining, and more, read our post here.

We ended up with three reservations:

  1. Three nights in Twin Hilton Ocean View room (cheaper room for our “Tokyo” days)
  2. Two nights in Twin Celebrio Theme Park View room booked as part of Tokyo Disneyland vacation package on the official Disneyland’s website
  3. And one more night in the same room type booked with Hilton. We had to book it separately since the maximum length of a Disney vacation package is 3 days and we wanted to spend 4 days in the parks.

I emailed the hotel a few days before our arrival asking to combine reservations 2 and 3, and they were happy to help. They also made it very easy to move from one room to another: all we had to do is leave our luggage in the room, let them know we were checking out, and then it magically appeared in the “new” room.

Rooms

Here is a quick tour of both room we stayed at:

I still can’t figure out why Celebrio room is more expensive than Hilton room. From extra space to the number of USB charging ports Hilton room outshined the Celebrio room. As for the view, while you can see the fireworks from the room, Theme Park view is mostly view of the parking lots. With the Ocean View room you get to see Mount Fuji!

Dining

There are plenty of dining options at the hotel.

We loved the breakfast buffet served at the Square restaurant. My daughter is a very picky eater and I was concerned she would starve to death on our Tokyo/Hong Kong trip (spoiler alert: she is alive and well). She had no problem filling up her plate at breakfast time. In fact, she claims this was her favorite breakfast buffet ever.

The breakfast was complimentary as we have Hilton Gold status thanks to my American Express card. Another perk of having the Gold status is priority seating at the restaurant, which was great since the breakfast buffet is very popular and the “regular” line was 20+ people on most days

Somehow, we ended up spending $40 at the Fresh Connection on a quick dinner on the arrival day. After that, we purchased meals and snacks at the convenience store Seikatsu Saika located in the lobby. In addition to all kinds of snacks, the store had a variety of prepared meals and the store associates can warm them up for you in the microwave if needed.

Shopping

There are several gift shops, a Disney store with parks merchandise – Disney Fantasy, and a convenience store – Seikatsu Saika.

Disney store is quite small, but has enough variety to stock up on last minute souvenirs.

The convenience store was our favorite – we shopped there at least twice a day. It was fun trying Japanese snacks and sweets (see Dining above).

Transportation

To/From the Airport

We took the Limousine Bus from Narita to the hotel. You can not reserve tickets for the bus for the airport-hotel route but it took just a few minutes to purchased them at the arrival hall. Note that the last bus that will stop at the hotel leaves the airport at 6 pm. See the bus schedule here.

We were heading to Haneda in the end of our Tokyo trip, and we were able to reserve the Limousine Bus tickets for this route online. We paid for the tickets at the bell service desk on the day of departure (cash only).

To the Parks

Getting to the parks is super easy:

A short walk from the hotel to Bayside monorail station (or you could take a shuttle bus)

4 min ride on the monorail to DisneySea

9 min ride to Disneyland

If you are fast walkers like us, you can get from the hotel to DisneySea in under 10 minutes.

Unlike the monorail in the US parks, Tokyo Disney Resort Line is not free. A single ticket is 260 Yen for adults (12+) and 130 Yen for kids (kids under 6 are free). You can also purchase day passes or a ticket book. See detailed information on Disney Tokyo site.

Or you can use Suica or Pasmo card. This is what we did.

If you book Tokyo Disney vacation package it will come with the monorail pass for the duration of your package.

To Tokyo

Getting to the city was easy as well: a ride on the monorail to Resort Gateway station, a quick walk through Ikspiari to JR Maihama station, and then whatever Google Maps and Hyperdia tells you to do (we used both apps, both were good).

We purchased our Suica cards at Maihama station. Kids (6-11) tickets are 50% off but you have to purchase their Suica card at the window and you must present their passport at the time of purchase.
